Preface:

This site, originally trekdatabase.net was started in 2004 by a penniless college student who wanted to watch Enterprise but couldn't, his TV only got black and white snow when tuning into UPN, the only channel that hosted any scifi at all in his area. He was too poor to buy cable, so he used what was available, the university internet connection. One thing led to another and what came out of it is the site you are about to enter, which I personally think of as an online DVR ~ Aqua

Mission Statement:

The main purpose of this site is to provide access to TV shows for people that have no other way to view them. The second purpose of this site is to provide archives of past TV seasons to fill in the back-story. The third purpose of this site is to provide a convenient location where people can broaden their horizons and check out similar content they otherwise would not have bothered with in a more inconvenient form.

A little more...

If you can possibly watch a show as it is being broadcast live, please do so. When you do this, you (1) view the advertisements and so support what actually funds the shows, allowing them to continue (2) be counted in the viewer statistics, if there aren't enough eyes on a show, it gets canceled (3) doing the legal thing just feels good (4) reduces our bandwidth needs, leaving more space for people who, for one reason or another, cannot view the show live.

I've twice refereed to people who have no way to view the shows direct from their commercial sources. By this I mean people who live in an area where it isn't broadcast (such as our soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan) or people who are working when it is broadcast and either forgot or don't have a way to automatically record the show.

A lot of people have asked if this site is legal. The answer is yes and no. Huh? To clarify, you need to check on the laws of your nation. For example, downloading from here is illegal in the USA, but it is legal in Brazil. It is legal to visit the site and the forums and post, only the downloads are questionable. However, if we get a request from the MPAA or other similar organization to pull specific content, we will immediately do so without contest. This is a not-for-profit volunteer site, with neither the funds nor the inclination to take them on regardless of the merits of the actual controlling laws.

You host tv shows, what about other stuff? If you want music, you can legally purchase it at affordable rates on emusic.com, itunes.com and many other sites, as such we feel no compulsion to host it (see mission statement #1). If you want movies, we have made the moral decision not to host them. Unlike Music and TV shows which are advertising supported and make their money from the broadcast companies wheich make their money from advertisements.... movies are entirely different, the budget for a movie can be hundreds of times the cost for an entire tv season, and the money to pay for it comes from theaters and dvd rentals. As such, it is only right for us to refuse to host that material, and hope that our members will pay to see this content instead of getting it for free at one of the many torrent sites. What about software such as game... this is in the same situation as movies, you can see on the forums where we once actually created a server for this, however we decided against it before actually making the content available, again for moral reasons. What about the porn that so many other similar sites have? Early on, we made the decision that this site was to remain family friendly, and despite a good bit of opposition, have stuck to it. To sum this section up, our niche of the web is that of tv shows, and we will not deviate from that.
